Rebates & incentives

Victorian & Federal energy rebates

Solar, battery, air conditioning and heat pump upgrades all attract government discounts. As a VEU Accredited Person (AP A003285) and NETCC approved seller, we check your eligibility, apply the discount up front and handle the paperwork.

Approved & accredited

An energy saving upgrade company

Greener Upgrade is a fully accredited Accredited Provider (AP) under the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program and an approved solar and battery retailer under the New Energy Tech Consumer Code (NETCC). That means the discounts are handled by us, not by a third party.

NETCC Approved Seller — New Energy Tech Consumer Code

NETCC Approved Seller

What each upgrade is worth, who qualifies, and where the discount comes from. Amounts vary with product, capacity, location and program rules — eligibility is confirmed in writing before installation.

Solar panels

Federal STC incentive

Every eligible rooftop solar system in Australia receives an up-front discount through small-scale technology certificates (STCs). The value depends on system size, your postcode zone and the deeming period — we calculate it and apply it directly to your quote, so you never claim it yourself.

  • Applied up front — no rebate paperwork for you
  • Available Australia-wide for homes and businesses
  • Larger systems attract a larger discount
  • Solar Victoria rebate & interest-free loan may apply on top, subject to eligibility

CHEAPER HOME BATTERIES PROGRAM

Since 1 July 2025 the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program has cut roughly 30% off the installed cost of an eligible home battery, delivered as an up-front discount. The discount steps down each year, so installing sooner keeps more of it. Victorian households may also be able to use a Solar Victoria interest-free battery loan on top.

  • Roughly 30% off an eligible battery, applied up front
  • Solar panels required — new or existing — to qualify
  • Approved, VPP-capable batteries only — every brand we install is on the list

Air conditioning

Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU)

Replacing an old ducted gas heater, wall furnace or inefficient split system with a high-efficiency reverse-cycle air conditioner can attract a VEU discount. The amount is calculated from the star rating, capacity and climate zone of the system you choose, and is applied to your quote up front.

  • Discount applied up front — no waiting for a cheque
  • Higher discounts when replacing ducted or non-ducted gas heating
  • Old equipment decommissioned and reported as the scheme requires

Heat pump hot water

Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU)

Swapping an existing electric-resistive or gas storage hot water system for a high-efficiency heat pump is one of the largest discounts available under the VEU program. We handle the eligibility check, the scheme paperwork and the decommissioning of your old unit.

  • Substantial up-front discount on eligible heat pump replacements
  • Available for owner-occupiers, rentals and small business premises
  • Combine with solar to cut running costs to near zero

Rebate questions, answered

Do I need to own my home to get a rebate?

No. Owner-occupiers qualify, and tenants and landlords can also access VEU upgrades with the right agreement in place. We confirm eligibility for your situation before quoting.

Do I need solar panels to get the battery rebate?

Yes. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program requires the battery to be paired with a new or existing solar system, and the battery must be on the approved, virtual-power-plant-ready product list. Every battery we install is on the list.

How much is the solar battery rebate in 2026?

The federal program cut roughly 30% off the installed cost of an eligible battery from 1 July 2025, and the discount steps down each year — so installing sooner keeps more of it. The exact figure depends on battery size; we confirm current amounts in writing before you commit.

Can I combine more than one rebate?

Often yes. For example, a Victorian household may combine the federal battery discount with a Solar Victoria interest-free loan, and VEU discounts can apply to air conditioning and heat pump hot water in the same home. We map out every program you qualify for in one quote.

What does it mean that Greener Upgrade is an Accredited Person (AP)?

Under the Victorian Energy Upgrades program only an Accredited Person can create the certificates that rebates are paid on. Greener Upgrade is AP A003285, which means we create the certificates ourselves and apply your discount directly — no third-party middleman taking a cut.

Is the rebate a cash payment?

No — for the upgrades we install, the rebate is delivered as an up-front discount on your quote. There's no waiting for a cheque or claiming money back later.

Do rebate amounts change?

Yes. Program rules and discount values change over time — the federal battery discount steps down each year, and VEU rates vary with the product, capacity and the system being replaced. Eligibility and amounts are always confirmed in writing before installation.
